THE STORK PROJECT

"Inspiring cast, what a beautiful reminder that life is precious, congrats and well done to the kids.”

(Audience Member Feedback, Drayton Arms Theatre July 2023)

The Stork Project offers weekly performing arts workshops to families from migrant backgrounds to develop theatre skills, share experiences and create a new musical together that is performed on a professional theatre stage in London.

WHAT IS THE STORK PROJECT?

Weekly sessions invite whole families to join us for performing arts activities that support the mental health and wellbeing of participants. Sessions are planned carefully around the needs of the group with a therapist present ensuring trauma-informed practice. We take an ethical approach to working with people from different communities, inviting those with lived experience into the facilitating staff team.

Staff are on hand to work both with the whole family and separate age groups depending on the content of the session.

Children over 5 years old are able to participate in sessions. Children under 5 are looked after by a staff member whilst the session takes place.

WE’RE ALIVE

PERFORMED AT DRAYTON ARMS THEATRE & HARROW ARTS CENTRE, 2023

It’s the night before the war starts. The weather is unseasonably cold. The Stork knows what’s coming. They go to sleep with ordinary dreams, they wake up to sirens. A Woman in a kitchen somewhere far away receives letters written by trembling hands from around the world. Letters she is used to, but people she wasn’t expecting - they’re all coming to the kitchen.

We’re Alive is an intergenerational piece of theatre created by Ukrainian refugees as part of The Stork Project, based on stories shared by children and adults of war and migration. The group was established in March 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. Together they have decided to etch their experiences into history and share them with an audience. They invite you to hear their stories told from the perspectives of different generations.

But more than anything they want you to know that they’re alive.

  • "Well done to everybody involved in the show, keep making shows like this. It highlights what community means.”
